Going to the dentist can be an intimidating experience, but we do everything we can to make our office warm and welcoming. We want your first visit to our office to be a good one, and we do everything in our power to make sure you have a positive experience.
When you visit our office for the first time, you will receive an x-ray designed to make diagnosis and treatment of common dental problems easier. The x-ray shows not only the structure of your teeth but the underlying bone as well. This makes the diagnosis of dental problems easier and helps set the stage for the rest of your dental treatments.
We will also ask you about your medical history when you visit our office for the first time. Compiling a detailed and accurate medical history is important, since dental care is an integral part of your overall health care. We will need to know about any past hospitalizations and operations, as well as any prescription and non-prescription medications you are taking. Knowing your medical history and current health status will allow us to design a treatment plan that is safe and comfortable for you.
Your first dental checkup is important, but it is only the first part of maintaining your oral health and bright white smile. We encourage you to have regular routine wellness exams every 6 months, since having regular checkups is the best way to detect problems early and treat them promptly.
We recommend that all children 3 years of age and older have regular checkups every 6 months. All adults should be on the same 6 month exam schedule. No matter what your age, having routine dental exams will:
When you arrive for your routine dental appointment, the dentist will also give your teeth a professional cleaning and polishing. Regular cleanings are important, since they help to remove plaque buildup that could lead to tooth decay.
The dentist will also check the health of your gums and teeth to look for tooth decay and gum disease. At the same time, we will examine your tongue, cheeks and mouth to look for potential oral health issues. Depending on the outcome of the exam, we may provide you with additional guidelines for brushing and flossing your teeth, and with product recommendations to keep your mouth even cleaner.
You do not have to spend a long time or disrupt your schedule to keep your smile looking great. Our regular dental checkups take less than an hour – you can expect to spend about 45 minutes from start to finish.
We need to know when you are coming, so we see patients by appointment only. If you have a dental emergency we encourage you to call our office for further instructions. We do not want you to put off needed dental care just because office hours have ended. For routine care, call our practice during normal office hours and schedule your next appointment. If you cannot make your previously scheduled appointment, just call our office and we will be happy to reschedule for you.
