The summer season is filled with delicious things to eat, from funnel cakes and other fair foods to candied apples and milkshakes made with fresh homemade ice cream. The warm weather means many of us will be eating outdoors, grabbing food on the go and spending time at backyard barbecues, but all those summertime treats can be bad news for your dental health.
The good news is that there are things you can do to protect your teeth from the ravages of summer. You do not have to deprive yourself or do without the sweet things summer has to offer, but making smart choices and limiting your consumption of sugary foods is always a good idea – not just in summer but all season long.
One of the smartest things you can do to protect your teeth this summer is to put oral hygiene at the front of your to-do list. If you know you will be out and about all day, pack a travel size tube of toothpaste and a small toothbrush in your pocket or purse.
Having the tooth care supplies you need will allow you to brush your teeth after that funnel cake at the fair or following that delicious homemade milkshake at your neighbor’s picnic. Brushing your teeth only takes a few minutes, but it could protect you from cavities and serious tooth pain later on.
