Life can become busy, overwhelming, and stressful. It’s important to learn habits that will help reduce the stress in your life as well as ways to cope when it happens. Here are four ways that you can help to reduce the stress in your life.
If you wake up each morning to a messy kitchen and dishes piled in the sink, you are not starting your day in the best possible way. Waking up to a mess you need to clean when you’re already crunched for time is stressful. In order to avoid this, end each day by washing all dishes and cleaning the kitchen. You will wake up and be able to eat breakfast without worrying about cleaning up from the day before or adding on to your pile to clean later.
Exercise is helpful in reducing stress. Spend at least thirty minutes each day being physically active. Exercise helps to boost endorphins, which is a feel-good hormone. This will help you deal with and release stress. Don’t worry if you can’t hit the gym every day or even go out for a run. You can work at home with minimal or no equipment. You can do lunges and squats while you cook dinner or watch TV.
To reduce stress in the morning make it a habit to not check texts before you get out of bed. The longer you can go without checking them, the better. Once you begin replying to emails and texts the flow of back and forth will continue. Texts especially are a distraction that you probably don’t need. Get a few things checked off your to-do list before you start replying. The exception to this rule would be urgent and work-related emails or texts. Anything else can be ignored for a few hours. You should never feel guilty for being busy with work or your own life that you can’t reply immediately.
At the end of a stressful day taking time to be alone and decompress is important. You may only have time or ten minutes, but that’s enough time to meditate or sit and read a book. If you have more time to be alone, you can soak in a hot bath. You deserve a bit of time during the day where you aren’t doing things for others, working, or on your phone. This will refresh and re-energize you, which means you’ll be happier and less stressed. There is no perfect time for alone time. Whenever you can manage time for yourself, take advantage.
Reducing the stress in your daily life is possible. When you create new habits, you can change the way you feel and react in different situations.
